Missing Blue River canoeist found safe

August 21, 2013
Indiana conservation officers are conducting an investigation after a canoe capsized on Blue River on Friday evening.

Shortly after 8 p.m., authorities received a dispatch advising of a missing female on the river.

Conservation officers and other agencies searched the area of White Road for any sign of Alisa Fink, 48, of Louisville, after Sean Falvey, 47, also of Louisville, who had been canoeing with Fink, reported their canoe had capsized.

According to authorities, after the vessel capsized, the pair became separated on opposite sides of the river and were unable to retrieve their canoe. Falvey then hiked downstream until he came to the Harrison County side of Blue River, where he asked a landowner for assistance in returning to Milltown and then notified authorities of the incident.

Fink was found, along with the family dog, uninjured around 11:15 p.m., approximately four miles upstream of Milltown.

Conservation officers were able to narrow the search area and locate Fink when they heard her yelling for help.

Also assisting were the Crawford County Sheriff's Department, Milltown Police Department and Milltown Volunteer Fire Department.
