Community invited to pair of Marching Wolfpack events

August 28, 2013
The inaugural Crawford County Season Preview Festival will be Saturday, Sept. 7, at Crawford County Junior-Senior High School.

The exhibition, on the football field, will feature seven bands — the host Crawford County Marching Wolfpack, Charlestown, Corydon Central, Northeast Dubois, Orleans, Southridge and Tell City — that will preview their 2013 shows.

Admission will be $5 per person, and concessions will be available for purchase.

While the festival will begin at 7 p.m. with all bands playing the national anthem, there will be several pre-show activities at 6:30.

Different sections from each school (hornline, drumline, colorguard) will get together to play together in groups. The hornline section will have approximately 200 students, while the drumline and colorguard groups will have about 60 each. The combined activities will be open to the public.

Although the festival is non-competitive, the audience will be able to vote for its favorite hornline, drumline and colorguard, along with best "pit crew" and overall fan favorite.

On Sept. 14, the band program will host the Crawford County Marching Wolfpack Fun Festival.

At Marengo Elementary School from noon to 4 p.m., the event will include several festival games, with tickets costing 50 cents each or 12 for $5, lunch (hamburger or hot dog, chips and drink) for $2 and drum and guard clinics led by students and staff members.

The drum clinic, which will be from 1 to 4 p.m., will be for students in grades 4 through 12 interested in learning how to play a drum. The guard clinic, for students in grades 1 through 12, will be from noon to 4 p.m. in the gymnasium and will teach participants how to dance and spin a flag. Students from both clinics will give a short demonstration at 4 p.m. on the lawn and perform during the Sept. 20 varsity football game.

The cost for either session is $20, and those participating in the drum clinic will receive a T-shirt, pair of drumsticks and drum gear, while guard clinic participants will receive a T-shirt and flag. Registration forms, which were sent home with students, should be dropped off with the entry fee at Crawford County Junior-Senior High School.

In addition to the Fun Festival, which will include a band performance at 4 p.m. on the MES lawn, the day will feature the Marching Wolfpack performing its 2013 program, "Swan Lake," at 7 at the Overlook Restaurant in Leavenworth.
