Town elections set — mostly

GOP must hold nominating conventions at L'worth, Milltown, Palmyra

August 07, 2019
Several towns will have elections this November; however, before the final slate of candidates is set for Leavenworth, Milltown and Palmyra, the Republican Party will have to have a town nominating convention in each.

A nominating convention is needed in those towns as each has more Republican candidates than the number of open seats. According to state law, there cannot be more candidates from a party than the number of available seats.

All three towns have four Republican candidates but only three open seats. In addition, Palmyra has two Republican clerk-treasurer candidates.

Aug. 21 is the deadline for the Republican, Democratic or Libertarian Party, if needed, to conduct a town nomination convention in a town with a population of less than 3,500.

Following is the complete list of municipal election candidates (* denotes incumbent). Note that in English, since the number of candidates does not exceed the number of open seats, no election is needed and the candidates, all incumbents, will continue in their positions. In addition, Georgetown held a primary in May to select its candidates.
