Indiana State Police arrested a Ramsey man early Saturday morning whom they believe robbed a Marengo bank on Friday afternoon.
Jason Elliott, below in his processing photo at the Crawford County Jail, was arrested early Saturday morning and charged with Level 5 robbery and Level 6 felony theft for allegedly robbing the First Savings Bank at Marengo. Above is a photo from surveillance footage taken during the robbery.
Jason Elliott, 44, was charged with Level 5 robbery and Level 6 felony theft after ISP detectives received a tip from an unidentified individual who saw a Facebook post about the robbery of the First Savings Bank branch at Marengo.
Using the information, detectives were able to identify Elliott and track him down at his 8380 Jill Circle NW Drive residence. They were able to recover some of the money that was allegedly stolen during the robbery on Friday.
According to the ISP, a white male wearing a black baseball hat and sunglasses entered the bank, at 165 E. S.R. 64, carrying a bag and demanded money from one of the bank tellers. After receiving an undisclosed amount of money, the robber fled the bank on foot possibly to a nearby vehicle.
No weapon was displayed during the robbery, and no customers were in the bank at the time, according to police.
Following further investigation, the ISP believe that Elliott also robbed the Stock Yards Bank in Austin on July 19.
Elliott was taken to the Crawford County Jail where he is being held on bond.
Assisting agencies included the Crawford County Sheriff's Department, English Police Department and Milltown Police Department.
