Stephanie Taylor Ferriell
A veteran journalist with 26 years experience, she was editor of The Salem Leader and The Salem Democrat for 18 years.
Ferriell, a Harrison County native, is a 1987 graduate of Corydon Central High School and earned her bachelor's degree in journalism and English from Indiana University - Bloomington.
"The Corydon Democrat is where it all started for me," she said. "When I was in high school, then-editor Randy West let me spend every career day or job-shadowing day in the newsroom. I am thrilled to return to my roots and have the opportunity to write about my hometown, as well as Crawford County, which is where I now call home."
Ferriell and her husband, Darin, live on a farm near Marengo with their three children, Hays, Sylvia and Warner.
"In a small community, the newspaper is the glue that holds it all together," she said. "There is no other medium that provides a record of important events, a comprehensive report of public meetings and a look at issues that matter in our lives like a newspaper. It's the newspaper that's there to sift out the facts when a tragedy or disaster occurs. It's the newspaper that records the important events in a community. It's the newspaper that holds elected officials and boards accountable. It's the newspaper that celebrates small-town festivals, student achievements and milestones such as birthdays, weddings and anniversaries. It's the newspaper that writes a community's first draft of history."
