The Washington County Family YMCA has announced that Indiana University men's basketball coach Tom Crean will be the keynote speaker at a fundraiser banquet at Salem High School on Monday evening, Oct. 21, at 6:30.

"This is a wonderful opportunity for the Southern Indiana community to gather to listen to a great speaker and leader," Ryan Penrod, executive director of the Washington County Family YMCA, said. "The Y will use this event as a kick-off to the campaign for future capital improvements."

Crean, who is entering his sixth season as Indiana coach, has led the Hoosiers to consecutive Sweet 16 appearances and a 56-16 record over the past two seasons. His guidance of the Indiana program to success from "unthinkable depths" is regarded as one of the most remarkable rebuilding projects in NCAA basketball history.

This past season the Hoosiers won their first outright Big Ten regular season title in 20 years, and garnered a No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament, also their first in 20 years.

In 2012, Crean was named the Sporting News Big Ten Coach of the Year, and the ESPN.com National Coach of the Year.

Before coming to Indiana, Crean served as head coach at Marquette University (19992008), where the program averaged 20 wins a year and made six postseason appearances, including the 2003 NCAA Final Four.

Crean, who is highly regarded as a speaker, will be making his Salem appearance just 18 days before the Hoosiers tip-off the 2013-14 regular season against Chicago State in Bloomington.

Tickets for the Tip-Off Campaign Dinner cost $40 each and will go on sale Friday. They can be purchased at the Washington County Family YMCA or by calling 1-812-883-8495. Tickets will also be available at Mid-Southern Savings Bank, First Harrison Bank, all three Washington County PNC Bank locations and First Savings Bank.

Event sponsorships and special preferred seating are also available. To be a Foul Shot Sponsor, tables of four are available at $250 each. The 3-Point Sponsor is a table for eight at $500 each. A Championship Sponsorship for two tables of eight is available for $1,500. Call Robin Deaton at 1-812-525-9772 or Kristi Noel at 1-812-528-0864 to reserve a table or for more information.

The Washington County Family YMCA is located at 1709 N. Shelby St. in Salem.
