The Floyd Central Highlanders got their second win of the season Friday night, when they came up with a late touchdown to squeak past host Madison, 20-13, in a Hoosier Hills Conference match-up. The win placed the Highlanders in third place in the conference standings, behind Jeffersonville and Columbus East.
Floyd Central scored twice in the first period, Gaige Kingsmith running 25 yards to score and Garry Posey getting a 1-yard touchdown for a 13-0 lead.
Madison scored twice on running plays, from 42 and three yards, to tie things up at 13.
On the last scoring drive of the game, Posey ran in from five yards and Ryan Lenz got the extra point to give the Highlanders the 20-13 win.
The Highlanders finished with 311 yards of offense. Floyd Central carried the ball 39 times for 134 yards, and quarterback Colton Kimm completed 12 of 19 passes for 177 yards.
Six Highlanders made catches. Trevor Smith had two for 47 yards, and Brandon Stout had two for 34 yards. Kingsmith had one catch for 25 yards and carried the ball 14 times for 63 yards. Posey had 13 carries for 46 yards.
On defense, John Strobel had seven tackles, while Gabriel Kennedy and Stout had five each.
Madison finished with 233 total yards. The Cubs completed just four passes for 48 yards and carried the ball 36 times for 185 yards.
The Highlanders will be at home Friday night against conference opponent Seymour. The game will kick off at 7.
