Of the many girls' basketball players throughout the state, North Harrison's Lilly Hatton found out March 18 she is one of four finalists for the prestigious Miss Basketball honor.
The award goes to the top senior girls' basketball player as voted on by high school coaches and media throughout the state.
Hatton, who will play collegiately at Wofford College in South Carolina, posted career numbers of 2,052 points, 949 rebounds and 490 blocks. Part of Class 3A runner-up finishes her freshman and sophomore seasons, Hatton closed with a record of 93-16 overall.
As a senior, Hatton averaged 24.8 points and 10.2 rebounds per outing.
Joining Hatton in the final four are Bedford North Lawrence's Jorie Allen, Warren Central's Shaila Beeler and Marquette Catholic's Emma Nolan.
Carmel alum Amy Dilk, who currently plays at the University of Michigan, was named Miss Basketball in 2018. From Southern Indiana, the last to earn the honor was Sara Nord of Jeffersonville in 2000. Within the Mid-Southern Conference, the most recent was Abby Conklin of Charlestown in 1993. Other Miss Basketballs from MSC programs include Jodie Whitaker (Austin, 1985) and Renee Westmoreland (Scottsburg, 1989).
Miss Basketball, sponsored by the IndyStar and presented by the Indiana Fever, will be announced Sunday, May 5, at Clowes Memorial Hall at Butler University in Indianapolis as part of the IndyStar Sports Awards event. Former auto racing driver Danica Patrick will be the guest speaker.
