Sectional baseball action next week

May 15, 2019
A field of 384 teams will begin play next week as the pairings for the 53rd annual Indiana High School Athletic Association baseball state tournament series were announced May 5.

Sectional competition will begin Wednesday, May 22, and continue through Memorial Day (May 27) with the 64 champions advancing to the four-team regionals on Saturday, June 1. The 16 regional winners will be assigned to four semi-state sites and play a single game on Saturday, June 8, with the winners moving into their respective state championship game.

The four state championship games will be played at Victory Field in Indianapolis for the 14th consecutive year and 22nd overall. This year's games will be played in a doubleheader format on Monday, June 17, and Tuesday, June 18, three days later than the traditional weekend slot due to Indianapolis Indians home games.

In an eight-team 3A field, host North Harrison is on the same side of the bracket as county rival Corydon Central. North Harrison will open against Providence, while the Panthers play Charlestown. Winners return to face one another in the semi-final.

Crawford County will open 2A play against host Lanesville, who is still in 2A due to the tournament success factor. The winner will move on to face the Paoli versus Eastern (Pekin) victor in the semi-final.

Floyd Central, meanwhile, will face Seymour in the opening round of the Class 4A sectional at Bedford North Lawrence. The winner will advance to face either Jennings County or Bedford North Lawrence.

Admission will be $6 per session or $10 for a season pass per sectional.
