May 14, 2008 Both incumbents on the school board of the North Harrison Community School Corp. were defeated by political newcomers last Tuesday. While the school trustees represent townships, they are selected by voters in the entire school district.
Michael Beyerle, who won the Blue River Township seat, defeated Buddy Bosler, 2,231 votes to 1,668 votes.
"I think people are ready for a change," Beyerle said. "I think they are frustrated with the whole school system, not just the (lack of a new) teacher contract."
He said he believes decisions have been made by the current board that the community "has not approved of" such as changes in personnel and administration.
The top priority for Beyerle, once the new board is in place July 1, is to settle the teacher contract dispute, which is going on its fourth year.
Beyerle will be joined on the board by Gerald (Jerry) Renneker, who defeated Ronald E. Coleman, 2,062 votes to 1,736 votes. Renneker will represent Morgan Township.
