Eckerty stand-off with police ends peacefully

June 18, 2008
Last Tuesday, June 10, at about 4:30 p.m. the Crawford County Sheriff's Department responded to a domestic situation at the 400 block of Montgomery Road near Eckerty.

Chris Hirsch, 43, Eckerty allegedly had gotten into an argument with his father and is believed to have fired a gun at him. When officers arrived, Hirsch barricaded himself in the residence.

The Indiana State Police Emergency Response Team and the Indiana State Police Crisis Negotiators were called to assist.

Senior Trooper Greg Ashby, a member of the ISP Hostage Crisis Negotiating Team, began negotiating with Hirsch at approximately 5:35 p.m. After about 45 minutes of negotiations, Hirsch exited the residence and was taken into custody.

The Crawford County Sheriff's Department arrested Hirsch on a preliminary charge of criminal recklessness with a firearm, intimidation, and resisting law enforcement.
