Crawford 4-H Fair promises something for all


Fair will be Saturday, July 5, through Saturday, July 12, at Crawford County 4-H Community Park

The annual Crawford County 4-H Fair will kick off Saturday at the 4-H Community Park south of Marengo with the 4-H Horse Completion Show and won't stop until the following Saturday night, with plenty of food, fun and festivities in between.

A complete schedule of events for each day appears as an insert in today's papers that go to Crawford County, but a brief recap of the highlights follows.

In addition to the horse show, Saturday will feature a mudsling in the Arena. Fees are $25 for trucks and $10 for quads. Children 5 and under are admitted free, 6 to 10 are $5, adults are $8, and pit passes are $10.

Sunday will be a day of pageants, beginning with the Little Miss and Master Contests at the Expo Center/Pavilion at 3 p.m. Then, at 6 p.m., seven of Crawford County's finest young ladies will go for the crown of Miss Crawford County at the Expo Center/Pavilion. (Profiles appear on page 6.)

Also on Sunday, perishable exhibit will be from 4 to 6 p.m. in the Clover Room, while livestock check-in will be at 9 at the Pavilion.

Livestock check-in will continue on Monday at 6 a.m. at the Pavilion, while perishable exhibit check-in will be from 8 to 9 a.m. 4-H and Open Class exhibit display will be in the Clover Room beginning at 4 p.m. each day beginning Monday, while commercial exhibits will be on display from 6 p.m. to close through Friday. Also at 6 each night beginning Monday, bingo will be in Tent One at the Pavilion. That evening it will be followed by the Pretty Baby and Tiny Tot Contest in the Tent at the Pavilion at 7.

Tuesday's fun will include a Cat and Dog Show at the Shelter House at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday will also be the first night that the Midway will be open (every night is bracelet night). A Horse Demonstration will be at 7 p.m., followed by the Livestock Fun Show at 8; both events will be in the Pavilion.

On Wednesday, July 9, the Poultry, Rabbit and Swine Show will be in the Livestock Arena in the Pavilion at 6, followed by Motocross in the Arena at 7 (admission is free for children 5 and under, $5 for children 6 to 12, $8 for adults and $10 for pit pass). Open Stage will be at 7 p.m. at Tent Two at the Pavilion.

Thursday will bring the Livestock Show at the Pavilion at 6 p.m., Open Stage in Tent 2 at 7, Quad Races in the Arena at 7 (admission is free for children 5 and under, $5 for children 6 to 12, $8 for adults and $10 for pit pass).

The 4-H Livestock Auction will be at 6:30 p.m. on Friday at the Expo Center/Pavilion, followed by the Truck Pull at the Arena at 7 ( admission is free for children 5 and under, $5 for children 6 to 12 and $8 for adults). Marty Corn will perform at 7 at Tent Two, and karaoke will be on the Pavilion Stage at 8.

On Saturday, July 12, the last day of the fair, the Horse and Pony Open Fun Show at 9 a.m. at the Arena will kick off the day. Bring a horse and have some fun. There is a $1 entry free per caper class — all ages are welcome to participate. Ride a buck, egg and spoon, catalog race, toilet paper race, musical duckies or obstacle course.

From 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., there will be a 4-H antique car, truck, motorcycle and tractor show at the Pavilion, followed by the CARES chicken barbecue at 5. The Demolition Derby will return at 7 p.m. at the Arena (admission is free for children 5 and under, $5 for children 6 to 12, $8 for adults and $10 for pit pass; entry free is $25).

The evening, and fair, will be capped off with a Barn Dance at 10 p.m. at the Pavilion.
