Stumler steps down as Floyd County councilman, Democratic Party chair
July 16, 2008 Floyd County Councilman and County Democratic Chairman Randy Stumler has announced his resignation from both positions.
"Recently, another opportunity has arisen for me to give back, not just to the community that I love, but to our nation," Stumler said in a press release.
"The Department of Defense operates schools for the dependents of service personnel worldwide.
"I have been asked to teach math and science at a military base in the Azores, off the coast of Portugal. My family and I have accepted this offer, and will be moving next month to the base where we will live while I am teaching there," he continued.
"I am very excited that I will be able to serve our country and the men and women in uniform in this way. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity for my family and me, and we are up to the challenge."
Stumler will resign both county posts this week.
"I have enjoyed serving you as your Floyd County councilman for two terms and as Floyd County Democratic chairman for four years," he said. "I believe that I found a calling that allowed me to give back to our community. I hope that I have been a faithful servant during this time."
Stumler said he and his family plant to return to Floyd County once he finishes her service with the Department of Defense.
