Cox returns as principal at Marengo Elementary
August 27, 2008
Alan Cox, former Marengo Elementary School principal, is returning to the position, after the Crawford County Community School Corp. Board of Trustees voted last Tuesday night to rehire the current high school physical education to his former post.
Cox, who served at Marengo in the late 1990s, was given the position by a 5-2 vote, with trustees Lee Holzbog and Troy Wheeler casting nay votes.
The board acted on the recommendation of a committee set up to find a replacement for former Principal Judy Bueckert, who resigned for a position outside the school corporation.
In another matter, the trustees held a public hearing on the 2009 budget, inviting public comments on the advertised budget, the 2009-11 Capital Projects Plan and the 2009-20 Bus Replacement Plan. With no comments, the board, after adjourning the public hearing, unanimously passed resolutions to adopt the Capital Projects and Bus Replacement plans, as well as a levy neutrality resolution. The former deals with the corporation's bonding of its severance liability and is mandated by the state.
The school board is expected to adopt the 2009 budget at its Sept. 16 meeting at the Crawford County Administration Building, located at 5805 E. Administration Road, Marengo.
In other business, the school board:
•Was told by Superintendent Dr. Mark Eastridge and Crawford County Junior-Senior High School Principal Greg Moe that the students who took the ACT test scored above the state average.
"And that's a trend that's going to continue," Eastridge said.
