September 03, 2008 North Harrison's 5,000-meter cross country course will be the backdrop of the 40th annual North Harrison Cross Country Invitational on Thursday.
It will be the 40th year for the boys' race and the 28th year for the girls' invitational. Runners will take off at 6 p.m. with a girls' junior varsity race followed by a boys' junior varsity race at 6:30. The gun will signal the start of the girls' varsity race at 7, followed by the varsity boys at 7:30. An awards program will follow at approximately 8:15.
Thirty schools will take part, mainly from the southern portion of the state. Harrison County teams Corydon Central, Lanesville and South Central will be competing, along with Crawford County and Floyd Central.
North Harrison will send out a talented squad on the boys' side, highlighted by state qualifier Tyler Byrne. The junior finished fourth in the Invitational last year and went on to a 21st place finish at state.
At the North Harrison Invitational a year ago, Crawford County won the girls' team top honors and Silver Creek won the boys'.
