Old Eckerty Days returns this weekend

This year's two-day Old Eckerty Days festival will begin with the Eckerty Queen Contest from 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday, with judging at 7:30. There will be numerous gift donations awarded for participants.
From 6 to 7 that evening, the Lil' Miss and Master Contest will be held for ages 3 and 4. Trophies will be awarded to the winners. Later, at 8, there will be a karaoke contest, with trophies to be awarded to the top three spots.
Food served on Friday will include chicken dinners, cheeseburgers, cake, pie and cobblers.
Breakfast will begin Saturday's events and will be available from 8 to 10:30 a.m. Opening prayer will be at 10, as will the start of the Pretty Baby Contest, which will last until 2 p.m. with the winner announced at 3. Participants will be up to 2 years old. The winner will be determined by the amount of money donated to each child's photo.
From 10:30 a.m. on, food will be served, including cheeseburgers, coney dogs, elephant ears, fish sandwiches, chicken dinners, chicken strips, steak sandwiches and pork barbecue.
Beginning at noon, there will be a parade, with the line-up starting at Eckerty Cemetery.
There will also be three tournaments held on Saturday, beginning with a volleyball tournament at 2 p.m. A cornhole tournament will be at 3, and a horseshoe tournament will be at 4.
There will be music played all day by Luke Kelly, Joel Schwartz, Marion Mitchell and friends, Laura Sitzman, The Path Finders, Sacred Calling, Louisville Express and Adam's Harmony.
That evening, from 7 to 11, there will be a street dance with Country Charm Band.
Old Eckerty Days planner John Schwartz said he is looking forward to another big turn out this year and hopes to raise more money to go towards the township community center.
