Harrison County Surveyor
October 08, 2008
Republican incumbent Tom Bube faces Democrat and former councilman Carl Duley in the race for Harrison County Surveyor.
Personal: Bube, 68, of Corydon, is married to the former Mary Frances Durbin and has a son, Thomas J. Bube, and three grandchildren, Joshlyn, Tyler and Brenden. A 1959 graduate of Corydon Central High School, he attended the University of Louisville two years, taking math, science and English courses. He also went through a four-year electrical apprenticeship and has an Association of Indiana Counties diploma. Completing his second term as county surveyor, he is a Republican but says he votes for the person. Voters may contact him at 968-3813 (home) or 596-0382 (cell).
Duties of the position sought: Witness 5 percent of all the section corners each year; maintain legal surveys; maintain property owners' surveys; member of the county plan commission board and county drainage board; resolve boundary disputes between property owners.
Why are you seeking the office? My education in math and science. I've attended surveyor seminars at Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis. I have a good knowledge of surveyor work. I have no other job, so I'm a full-time county official, and I enjoy doing this job.
What qualifies you for the office? Thirty years experience in management and running a business office and complying with government policies and procedures.
What do you consider the top issues in the campaign? The only issue is that I'm a full-time surveyor.
What problems, if any, does the county surveyor's office face? None at this time.
How would you help solve those problems? None.
Do you think the surveyor's office could be run more efficiently? If so, how? I don't think this office could be any more efficient than it is under my leadership.
Other comments: I ask for your support and vote on Nov. 4

Duties of the position sought: Several. Some are to maintain good records of surveys by public and private surveyors, legal surveys, court orders pertaining to boundary lines, check corner markers.
Why are you seeking the office? I will make this office one of the most people-friendly offices in the courthouse.
What qualifies you for the office? Over the years, I have gained a lot of knowledge pertaining to county government. I feel that I can use some of this knowledge in this position.

What problems, if any, does the county surveyor's office face? This I would not know at this time, not being in the office.
