Eckerty Y again target of burglary

December 17, 2008
The Eckerty Y General Store was broken into for the fifth time in a year Thursday night.

Indiana State Police Trooper Charles L. Pirtle reported suspects broke the large front window of the store and took between $800 and $1,400 worth of merchandise.

Owner John Thompson said he suspects it is the same culprit or culprits breaking into the store because similar merchandise has been taken each time. The stolen items include cartons of cigarettes, lighters, rolling papers and knives, he said.

Thompson has dubbed the burglars the "Bic Lighter Bandits" because they take his entire supply of Bic lighters each time they break-in.

Persons wish information regarding the burglary should call the ISP Jasper Post at 1-800-742-7475 or the Crawford County Sheriff's Department at 338-2802.
