Booher, ex-Pal fire chief, dies

April 08, 2009
Ronald D. Booher, a former chief of the Palmyra Volunteer Fire Department, died Friday night at University Hospital in Louisville from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Booher, 48, of Georgetown, was found near dark Friday at a Patoka Lake boat ramp by two fishermen, who called 911, according to an Indiana Conservation Officer.

The fishermen said when they went on the lake at about 7:10 p.m., there was no one else at the boat ramp. They later heard a gunshot and found Booher when they returned about an hour later.

Booher served as the fire department's chief for more than a decade. His term in office ended in 2001.

The funeral will be today (Wednesday) at 11 a.m. at Gehlbach & Royse Funeral Home in Georgetown.
