Ward returing to head Panther football program

Coach led team to 20-11 record in three seasons

April 08, 2009
Corydon Central will welcome a familiar face to the football sidelines in the fall.

Former Panther skipper Darin Ward has been named the new football coach for the 2009 season.

Ward coached three seasons at Corydon Central, compiling a 20-11 overall record. His last season came in 2003, when the Panthers enjoyed one of its best campaigns ever, compiling an 8-2 mark and finding time in the Class 3A poll.

When Ward took over the reigns in 2001, the Panthers were embedded in a 22-game losing streak.

Ward, a former tight end at Indiana University, takes over for Jason Timberlake (19-34 in five years). The Panthers finished the 2008 season 1-9, falling to Edgewood in the first round of sectional.

Currently coaching the boys' track and field team at Jasper High School, Ward also was an assistant for the Wildcat football team that went 11-2 a year ago.

After coaching three years at Corydon Central, Ward went to Crawford County to develop the upstart program in Marengo. Two years after heading the Wolfpack program, Ward became an assistant at Jasper.
