April 29, 2009 A fire that destroyed a mobile home in Floyd County early Sunday claimed the life of a 26-year-old man.
Authorities said a neighbor reported the fire on East Rouck Road, just off Quarry Road, around 4:18 a.m. Sunday. The Georgetown Township Fire Department arrived minutes later to find the mobile home fully engulfed in flames.
When the fire was brought under control, firefighters found a body, later identified as Robert W. Gresham Jr., in a bedroom in the northwest corner of the trailer home.
"Gresham's body was the only one found in the structure," Floyd County Detective Capt. Jeff Topping said. "It is my understanding that he talked to family members around 2 a.m. about going to get something to eat.
"According to the fire department, most of the heat was located in the kitchen area, which leads us to believe he may have been cooking."
Topping also said that Gresham lived alone and possibly had tried to escape.
He indicated there were no suspicious circumstances, but the fire is still being investigated.
