Trucker shot along I-64 in Floyd County

Police ask for public's help in solving crime

June 10, 2009
A truck driver was shot near the 116.5-mile marker of Interstate 64 in Floyd County late Friday night.

The driver, who police said was lying on the ground in front of his truck when they arrived on the scene, was taken to University Hospital in Louisville and was listed in stable condition.

According to police, the driver of the truck was traveling west when he became involved in an incident, at about 11:20 p.m., with another motorist who was driving a white Ford Thunderbird. Both parties pulled to the side of the road near the Georgetown exit, where an argument ensued when the occupants of the Thunderbird got out of the car. According to witnesses, one of those involved pulled a handgun and fired two shots, injuring the truck driver. The car then left the scene.

Police are asking anyone who may have witnessed the incident or any suspicious activity in the area at that time to contact Det. Jeff Firkins at the Floyd County Police Department at 1-812-948-5407.
