July 01, 2009 A New Albany man was killed Friday night when the moped he was driving on U.S. 150 near Floyds Knobs crossed the center line and struck an SUV, closing the highway for about two hours.
Brian K. Horne, 30, according to the Floyd County Prosecutor's Office Combined Accident Reconstruction Team, was ejected from the eastbound 1987 Honda moped he was driving near Barry Lane after it hit a westbound 2002 Toyota SUV head-on at about 9 p.m.
Horne was pronounced dead at the scene, while the driver of the SUV, Gary M. Trauth, 37, of Greenville, was uninjured.
Alcohol does not appear to be a factor, but chemical tests on both drivers were conducted.
The crash is still under investigation.
Other agencies assisting included the Floyd County Sheriff's Department, Indiana State Police, New Albany Police Department, Greenville Fire Department, Yellow Ambulance and Floyd County Coroner's Office.
The Floyd County Prosecutor's Office Combined Accident Recon-struction Team was formed in 2007 to investigate all fatal crashes and crashes involving serious bodily injury with the potential for criminal charges.
