Girls' hoops sectionals tip Tuesday

For the third straight year, a record number of schools have been drawn and placed into brackets in anticipation of the 36th annual IHSAA Girls' Basketball State Tournament.

A total of 397 schools and 5,284 student-athletes are expected to participate in the tourney.

The seven-team Class 3A Sectional 30 will take place at Charlestown.

Silver Creek (12-6) versus Mitchell (5-14) will kick off the tournament Tuesday, Feb. 8, at 7 p.m. in a first-round contest. Corydon Central (6-14) drew the bye and will await the winner. The semi-final game will take place Friday, Feb. 11, at 6 p.m.

The opposite side of the bracket will feature four teams. Crawford County (13-7) will take on Salem (13-6) on Wednesday, Feb. 9. at 6 p.m., while North Harrison (6-12) will take on defending sectional champion Charlestown (3-14) on the same date at approximately 7:30 p.m.

Both semi-final games will take place Friday, Feb. 11, starting at 6 p.m., followed by the championship on Saturday, Feb. 12, at 7:30 p.m.

The six-team Class 3A Sectional 15 will be played at Bedford North Lawrence beginning Tuesday, Feb. 8.

Jennings County (2-15) will face host Bedford North Lawrence (13-5) in the opening game at 6 p.m. Floyd Central (8-11) will tip off against Jeffersonville (18-2) in the second game.

Seymour (16-3) and New Albany (12-6) drew the byes and will not play until Friday, Feb. 11. Seymour will face the winner of the Jennings County-Bedford North Lawrence match-up at 6 p.m. New Albany then will meet the Floyd Central-Jeffersonville winner.

The championship game will be Saturday, Feb. 12, at 7:30 p.m.
