Children's theater to present 'Winnie'

March 23, 2011
In early 2010, the Community Foundation of Crawford County launched a regional children's theater company. A year later, the Peacock Children's Theatre Co. is in the final days of rehearsals for its third presentation, "Winnie the Pooh."

The 90-minute musical is based on A.A. Milne's stories from Kristin Sergel Dramatic Publishing Co. Lyrics are by A.A. Milne and Kristin Sergel, with music by Allan Jay Friedman.

Once again, Rita Harden is the volunteer artistic director, and Bonita Embry Coots, president and CEO of the CFCC, is responsible for the management and marketing/advertising. New is volunteer musical director Kathy Haines.

The Peacock Children's Theatre is a regional children's theatre company that includes child actors from throughout Southern Indiana, including Crawford, Harrison, Orange, Washington, Dubois, Clark and Floyd counties.

The cast includes: Kathy Haines, pianist; Ezra Pompano (Christopher); Cody Retherford (Winnie the Pooh); Grace Cox (Piglet); Jadin Wolf (owl); Levi Retherford (Eeyore); Rebekah Karcuff (Kanga); Charity Karcuff (Roo); Ariana Cox (Rabbit); Lukas Crecelius (Skunk); Grayce Wilson (Rabbit No. 1); Gloria Crecelius (Rabbit No. 2); Savannah Dodge (Rabbit No. 3); Samantha Karcuff, Kabrin Wolf and Logan Wolf (extra rabbits); Grayce Wilson (Roo understudy) and Kabrin Wolf (Little Rabbit No. 1 understudy).

Three performances will be offered at Hillview Christian Church, located two miles west of Marengo along S.R. 64, on Friday, April 1, at 6 p.m. and Saturday, April 2, at 2 and 6 p.m.

The following weekend, performances will be given at Lincoln Hills Christian Church, located at 1130 Dale Ave. in Corydon. The first performance will be Friday, April 8, at 6 p.m., with a second show on Saturday, April 9, at 2 p.m.

Tickets cost $5 for adults and $3 for school-age children and can be purchased at the door 30 minutes prior to any of the performances.

"We are very grateful for the support and generosity of the counties of Crawford and Harrison, in particular Hillview Christian Church and Lincoln Hills Christian Church leaders and trustees," Coots said. "Regional businesses that support the CFCC and performing arts programs are encouraged to purchase an advertisement in the 'Winnie the Pooh' playbill."

The deadline for confirming an advertisement or sponsorship is Friday. Businesses that purchased advertisements in previous production playbills will receive a one-time, 25-percent advertisement discount for the "Winnie the Pooh" playbill.
