A Crawford County woman has been charged with theft after allegedly taking money from her employer.
Dusty Burnham, 34, of Marengo, was arrested on Nov. 29 by Indiana State Police troopers and booked into the Crawford County jail after an investigation was initiated on Nov. 4.
According to a police report, Ralph Norman, owner of Ralph's Place in Eckerty, contacted state police and complained that Burnham had stolen cash from the business and had made unauthorized check card purchases while she was employed as a manager of the restaurant.
The investigation revealed that Burnham, who was employed at the business from Sept. 1 to Oct. 31, allegedly stole cash from box lunch sales that the business was delivering to the Jasper Engine and Transmission plant in Carefree.
It was also revealed that Burnham allegedly took approximately $200 in cash to pay for fuel for her personal car and used the restaurant's cash and check card to pay for about $450 in personal cell phone bills.
The total amount of money allegedly taken by Burnham was estimated to be at least $3,453.05.
Trooper Philip Lubbers, who conducted the investigation, was able to establish enough probable cause for arrest warrants to be issued for Burnham, according to the press release.
Burnham was arrested without incident and charged with theft, a Class D felony. Burnham's bond was set at $7,500.
