I sat in a meeting of our elected Floyd County School Board to observe their monthly business meeting. The highlight of the meeting was the recognition of three outstanding schools in Floyd County, represented by their respective principals.
Greenville Elementary represented by Principal Harlan Uhl, Silver Street Elementary represented by Principal Theresa Duke and Highland Hills Middle School represented by Principal Steve Griffin were selected as "Exemplary Schools," recognized by the State of Indiana for their academic excellence.
I was particularly impressed by the fact that these schools stood above many other very excellent schools in the county and were justly recognized by the state. Unfortunately, I cannot find anywhere that we have recognized them in Floyd County. I'm not sure if the school board was remiss in notifying the press of such notable accomplishments or if the notification was just ignored.
There were no pictures taken of these three principals at the event, and I haven't seen a story about them yet. Surely, in these days when we are begging for high quality education from our public school system, these three success stories merit some attention.
Would you please correct this discrepancy and recognize these three and their schools for their outstanding achievements? Thank you.
