'Stuff the Bus' receives public support

On behalf of United Way of Crawford County and Harrison County Community Services, we would like to thank all the generous Walmart shoppers for their overwhelming support of our "Stuff the Bus" event, which took place at the Corydon Walmart Supercenter on Friday, July 29. Stuff the Bus is an event focused on collecting school supplies for students in need.

By working together, we collected more than 3,000 items valued at over $2,400. All supplies and cash donations have been distributed to our educational partners in our dual-county service area. A special thank-you goes to Corydon Walmart and manager Kent Jones for allowing United Way to host this event.

United Way volunteer Trudy Stephens said, "When someone hands you a box of crayons and says, 'I've been out of work and cannot afford much. I hope this helps,' it made standing in the heat worth every minute. The generosity of the people, even those who were only passing through, was inspiring."

We are so grateful to the 35 volunteers who teamed up from Crawford and Harrison counties to make this event possible. The volunteers were: Janice McClure, Tiffaney, Bailey, Cody Saltsgaver, Austin Conder, Jody Arnold, Donis Morris, Shana Gentry, Cindy Coleman, Sara Combs, Ashley Jeffries, Becky Higgins, Dana Smith, Caitlin Higgins, Debbie Ade, Toni and Marcus Eastridge, Julia Bosler, Joyce Grable, Mary Talmadge, Sherrie Bell, Roger and Tina Bowman, Trudy Stephens, Rebecca Fenn, Ruth Capelle, Holly Haas, Sue Bline, Shirley Krick, Jana Stafford, Bonnie Pavey, Aley Stafford, Michael Dunn, Elizabeth Cato, Robert and Connie Pryor, Natalie Copler, Joseph Mattingly, Doris Cleek, Judy Woods, Brent Longford, Lynn Keasling, Kelly Nolot, Sharon Uhl, Vickye Williams, Glen Thienel, Velda and Sarah Harris and Carrie Lucas.

A special thank-you to the Crawford County Community School Corp. for providing a school bus which drew attention to the event and to Harrison County Community Services, Crawford County Head Start and Early Head Start, English Elementary, Leavenworth PTO and the United Way of Crawford County advisory committee members for their volunteerism.

Again, thank you to all those who were so generous. For more information about United Way of Crawford County, a division of United Way of Perry County, contact Rebecca Fenn at 1-812-547-2577. For more information about Harrison County Community Services, contact Richard Cooper at 738-8143.
