SNAP program has many benefits

Dog and cat overpopulation affects our communities in many ways.

As someone who has worked on environmental protection measures, I am aware of the impact domesticated animals have on our native wildlife species. Migratory songbirds, mammals, amphibians, reptiles and even the delicate migratory monarch butterfly, for example, are subject to predation by cats and dogs running at large, in large part to their own overpopulation.

The Crawford County Spay Neuter Assistance Program put forth by the commissioners and council will reduce dog and cat overpopulation, reduce native species predation, improve public health by increasing the number of dogs and cats receiving rabies vaccinations and benefit the community overall by reducing the number of abandoned dogs and cats.

I urge everyone to spay and neuter their pets.
