Leo Verkamp

Died: Sunday, May 04, 2008
Leo Verkamp, 84, Schnellville, died Sunday, May 4, 2008, at 10:37 a.m. at Jasper Memorial Hospital.

Born March 4, 1924, in Schnellville, he was the son of the late Henry and Frances Loechte Verkamp.

He was a farmer and a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Schnellville, Schnellville Conservation Club and St. Vincent DePaul Society.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, the former Minnie Thewes, on Aug. 7, 1991; an infant daughter, Mary; a brother, Oscar Verkamp; a sister, Alberta Betz; and a granddaughter, Jeanne Verkamp.

Survivors include five sons, Clarence, Raymond, Eugene, Charlie and David Verkamp, all of Schnellville; three daughters, Charlene Kern of Mariah Hill, Clara Mae Mehringer of Jasper and Dorothy Simpson of Tell City; a sister, Anna Mae Betz of Celestine; 24 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Visitation: Tuesday, May 6, from 1 to 9 p.m. at Becher & Kluesner Downtown Chapel in Jasper.

Funeral: Wednesday, May 7, at 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Schnellville, followed by burial in the church cemetery.
