Herman L. Cotner

Died: Sunday, June 08, 2008
Herman Leslie Cotner Sr., 75, Mauckport, died Sunday, June 8, 2008, at Harrison County Hospital in Corydon.

Born Aug. 29, 1932, in Harrison County, he was the son of the late William Dewey (Dee) and Mary Shireman Cotner.

He was retired from Martin-Marrietta Aggregates in Louisville, was a former employee of Lobdell-Emery and the Big Blue Store, both in Corydon, was a member of American Legion Hornickle Post 379 in Elizabeth and was a lifetime member of the VFW Hobart Beach Post 1693 in New Albany for his service in the Army and Air Force during the Korean War.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Jeanette Cotner Williams; two brothers, James and Maurice Cotner; and seven sisters, Clara Rhodes, Virgie Tolley, Beulah Beanblossom, Elenora Boze, Doris Singleton, Marilyn Davison and Flora Cotner.

Survivors include his wife, the former Gwendolyn Reed; three sons, Donald Cotner Nowlin of Chickasha, Okla., William Smith of Las Vegas and Les Cotner of New Amsterdam; four daughters, Cathy Cotner Coffman of Corydon, Cathy Plowman of Vine Grove, Ky., Phillis Cotner of Greenville and Terry Kapp of Georgetown; a brother, Clayton Cotner of Corydon; 24 grandchildren; and 32 great-grandchildren.

Visitation: Tuesday, June 10, from 7 to 9 p.m., Wednesday, June 11, from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Thursday, June 12, after 9 a.m. at Beanblossom-Cesar Funeral Home in Corydon.

Funeral: Thursday, June 12, at noon at the funeral home followed by another service Friday, June 13, at 1 p.m. at Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church near Mauckport followed by burial in the church cemetery.

Officiants: Pastors James Moore and Betty Sieberns, respectively.

Pallbearers: Les and Chris Cotner, Brian and Ed Plowman, Justin Singleton, Bill Smith, and Brian and Shane Heilig.

The family suggests memorial gifts to the American Cancer Society.
