Sister Gemma Gettelfinger

Died: Wednesday, July 23, 2008
Sister Gemma Gettelfinger, 91, Monastery Immaculate Conception in Ferdinand, died Wednesday, July 23, 2008, at 9 a.m. in the monastery’s Hildegard Health Center.

Born Sept. 14, 1916, in Ramsey, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Laura Engleman Gettelfinger.

She entered the Sisters of St. Benedict of Ferdinand in 1934 and made her first profession of vows in 1936 and her final profession in 1939. She worked as a teacher and a nurse during her 70 years of ministry.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by five brothers, Dr. Clement Gettelfinger, Clarence Gettelfinger, John Gettelfinger, Dr. Wilfrid Gettelfinger and Dr. Ralph Gettelfinger, and two sisters, Lodema Simon and Mildred Pate.

Survivors include a brother, Paul Gettelfinger of Corydon.

Funeral Mass: Saturday, July 26, at the Monastery Immaculate Conception with burial in the monastery cemetery.

Arrangements: Becher Funeral Home in Ferdinand.

Memorial contributions in memory of Sister Gemma may be made to the Sisters of St. Benedict of Ferdinand.
