Fletcher J. Byrd

Died: Wednesday, August 20, 2008
Fletcher Junior Byrd, 73, Leopold, died Wednesday, Aug. 20, 2008, at 11:15 p.m. at his home.

Born June 2, 1935, in Battletown, Ky., he was the son of the late Calvin Fletcher Byrd and Lena Nell Yates Byrd.

He was an Army veteran of the Korean War and served in Germany where he played in the Army band, was a truck driver with Bennett Motor Express in McDonough, Ga., played 15 years with the band, Fletcher Byrd and the Dreamseekers, a regular at the Derby Tavern which he and his wife owned and operated for several years, was a Kentucky Colonel, and a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 1172 and American Legion Post 213.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, William Calvin Byrd, and two sisters, Katherine Kraft and Adeline Armstrong.

Survivors include his wife of 37 years, the former Carolyn Ramsey; two daughters, Natalie Crowder of Leopold and Crystal Rust of Frankfort, Ky.; two sons, Fletcher Ashley Byrd of Leopold and Berry Calvin Byrd of Frederick, Okla.; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Funeral: Saturday, Aug. 23, at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Leopold with burial in St. Mary Cemetery in Derby with military graveside rites by the American Legion post.

Officiant: The Rev. Sean Hoppe.

Arrangements: Huber Funeral Home in Tell City.

The family suggests memorial gifts to St. Mary Cemetery.
