John J. Heitkemper

Died: Tuesday, August 26, 2008
John J. Heitkemper, 93, Lanesville, died Tuesday, Aug. 26, 2008, at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Louisville.

Born Aug. 1, 1915, in Louisville, he was the son of the late John E. and Rosa Bischoff Heitkamper.

He was a decorated Army veteran of World War II, a retired employee of the National Distillery in Louisville, a farmer, and a member of VFW Post 3281 in New Albany and St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Lanesville.

Survivors include his wife, the former Mildred Weyer; three sons, Guy, Jim and Robert Heitkemper, all of Elizabeth; five daughters, Mary Wismann of Hurst, Texas, Ruth Shumaker of Georgetown, Norma Menges of Lanesville, Linda Hubbard of Corydon and Donna Hublar of Elizabeth; two sisters, Rosalee Elble and Dorothy Heitkamper, both of Louisville; 19 grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.

Visitation: Friday, Aug. 29, from noon to 8 p.m. and Saturday, Aug. 30, after 8 a.m. at Gehlbach & Royse Funeral Home in Georgetown.

Rosary service: Friday, Aug. 29, at 7 p.m. at the funeral home.

Funeral: Saturday, Aug. 30, at 10 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Lanesville with burial, complete with military rites, in the church cemetery.

Officiant: Father Harold Ripperger.

Pallbearers: Michael and Justin Heitkemper, Richard Menges, James Hubbard and Jason and Josh Hublar.

Honorary pallbearer: William Heitkemper.

The family suggests memorial gifts to his church or to the V.A. Medical Center Hospice Fund.
