Frederick P. Griffin
Died: Wednesday, October 29, 2008
Frederick Porter Griffin, 93, Corydon, died Wednesday, Oct. 29, 2008, at Harrison Health and Rehabilitation Centre in Corydon.
Born April 7, 1915, he was the son of the late Maurice and Charlotte Rupp Griffin.
He was the owner of Maurice Griffin and Co. Inc. Dry Goods store in Corydon, was a former teacher for Corydon and Paoli high schools, was a former employee of Winston Brothers Construction Co. in Charlestown, was a local historian and genealogist, was a graduate of Indiana University in Bloomington, served on the Corydon library board, the Corydon Central school corporation board, the Corydon State Bank board of directors, the Cedar Hill Cemetery board of regents, The Harrison County Sesquicentennial Committee, was president of the Harrison County Historical Society, was a member of the Corydon Presbyterian Church and Pisgah Lodge 32 F&AM in Corydon and operated a tree farm on the Ohio River in Southern Harrison County known as “Porter’s Point.”
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Eleanor Ashton Griffin.
Survivors include a son, Patrick Ashton Griffin of Corydon.
Visitation: Saturday, Nov. 1, from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. at Beanblossom-Cesar Funeral Home in Corydon.
Funeral: Sunday, Nov. 2, at 2 p.m. at his church with burial in Cedar Hill Cemetery in Corydon.
Officiant: The Rev. Scott Hill.
The family suggests memorial gifts to his church, the donor’s favorite charity or by doing a kind deed for someone.
