Helen L. Congleton

Died: Monday, December 08, 2008
Helen Laverne Knuckles Congleton, 89, Pekin, died Monday, Dec. 8, 2008, at Waters of Salem Healthcare in Salem.

She was a former employee of Borden Cabinet Factory and Charlestown Powder Plant, a professional softball pitcher starting with Louisville Dairy Maids and other teams who also played for Wingcites and won the Kentucky State Championship in 1945 then played for the Chicago Chicks until 1948, and was a member of Martinsburg Church of Christ.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer Congleton; her parents, George and Ica Knuckles; three sisters, Dorthy, Fern and Irene; and four brothers, Gaih, Howard, Paul and Eddie.

Survivors include a son, Keith Congleton; a brother, Merle Knuckles; a sister, Mary; three grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

Visitation: Wednesday, Dec. 10, from 3 to 8 p.m. and Thursday, Dec. 11, from 9 to 11 a.m. at Love Funeral Home in Palmyra and Thursday, Dec. 11, after 11 a.m. at Martinsburg Church of Christ.

Funeral: Thursday, Dec. 11, at 1 p.m. at the church followed by burial in Martinsburg Cemetery.
