Wilda Skidmore

Died: Monday, January 19, 2009
Wilda Vass Neely Skidmore, 90, Hanover, died Monday, Jan. 19, 2009, at 9:15 p.m. at her home.

Born Nov. 19, 1918, in Georgetown, she was the daughter of the late Ernest A. and Frances Hottel Vass.

She was a 1937 graduate of New Albany High School, was employed for 22 years, from 1958 to 1980, with the Floyd County school system, serving as secretary and assistant to the superintendent, was a member of the Civil War Roundtables chapters in Jefferson County, Louisville and West Central (Greencastle) and the Prince of Peace Catholic Church in Madison.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Ernest A. Vass Jr.

Survivors include her husband of 26 years, Richard S. (Dick) Skidmore; a daughter, Janice Anderson of Floyds Knobs; a son, Michael Neely of Floyds Knobs; a stepdaughter, Kathryn Skidmore of Bloomington; a brother, the Rev. Calvin Vass of Clifford; seven grandchildren; a step-grandson; and three great-grandchildren.

Visitation: Friday, Jan. 23, from 4 to 8 p.m. with a prayer service at 7 p.m., at the Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre in Madison and Saturday, Jan. 24, after 10 a.m. at the Prince of Peace Catholic Church.

Funeral: Saturday, Jan. 24, at 11 a.m. at the church followed by burial in Hanover Cemetery.

Officiants: The Revs. John A. Meyer and Calvin Vass.

The family suggests memorial gifts to St. Jude Children’s Hospital or the Alzheimer’s Association.
