Herman E. Miller

Died: Monday, February 16, 2009
Herman E. Miller, 81, Sellersburg, died Monday, Feb. 16, 2009, at his home.

A native of New Middletown, he was a Navy veteran of World War II, earned degrees from Indiana State University and Indiana University and was a member of Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church.

He taught and coached at Milltown High School and Haubstadt High School near Evansville, had been superintendent for Clark County and a principal at Henryville High School, served as an adjunct faculty member at Indiana University Southeast and five years on the Chancellorís Advisory Council, and retired in 1990 as superintendent from West Clark Community Schools after serving 22 years as the districtís first superintendent. He served on the Indiana Association Public Schools Superintendentís executive committee for two years and Indiana High School Athletic Association council and board for five years, was a charter board member of W.E. Wilson Education Center, Prosser Vocational Center, Clark County Special Education Co-op and County Poverty Chief, and was instrumental in helping establish IUS and Ivy Tech.

Also, he was president of the original Clark County Building Authority, president of the Visiting Nurses Association Southern Indiana for 12 years, served on the Clark County T.B. Association and Clark County Zoning board, was a 25-year member of the Clark County Health Dept. board and was president of the Daylily Society of Louisville.

Survivors include his wife, Jeanne Luther; two sons, Dr. Stephen Miller of Sellersburg and Dr. Phillip Miller of Kerrville, Texas; a brother, Stanley Miller of Corydon; and three grandchildren.

Memorial service: Friday, Feb. 20, at 4 p.m. at Garr Funeral Home in Sellersburg with private internment in St. Peterís Cemetery in Lanesville.
