James H. Ferren

Died: Tuesday, March 17, 2009
James Harvey Ferren, 90, Elizabeth, died Tuesday, March 17, 2009, at Harrison Health and Rehabilitation Centre in Corydon.

Born Jan. 13, 1919, in Kentucky, he was the son of the late Vernon and Annie Nichols Ferren.

He was a retired butcher for Armour Meat Packing Co. in Louisville and attended The Lighthouse United Methodist Church in Elizabeth for 30 years.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wives, the former Jessie Mae Knight and Loranda Smith Sampson, and two sons, Robert Wayne Ferren and Lonnie Eugene Ferren.

Survivors include four daughters, Doris Sneed of Paoli and Joyce Sampson, Patricia Dooley and Glenda Morgan, all of Elizabeth; two brothers, Ralph Ferren of Louisville and Tommy Ferren of Munfordville, Ky.; three sisters, Verda Taylor and Margie Campbell, both of Shively, Ky., and Maedell Short of Elizabethtown, Ky.; 21 grandchildren; 46 great-grandchildren; and 11 great-great-grandchildren.

Visitation: Thursday, March 19, from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Friday, March 20, after 9 a.m. at Gehlbach & Royse Funeral Home in Corydon.

Funeral: Friday, March 20, at 11 a.m. at the funeral home followed by burial in Resthaven Memorial Park in Louisville.

Officiants: The Revs. John Sampson, Jason Walton and Steve Ellis.

Pallbearers: James Sneed, Mike Sampson, Daniel Dooley, Christopher and Phillip Morgan and Coy Sampson.

Honorary pallbearers: Carl Wayne Sneed, Willard Dale Sneed, Jesse Robert Sampson, Charles Virgil Sampson and William David Dooley.
