James E. Conrad

Died: Tuesday, June 09, 2009
James E. Conrad, 79, Ramsey, died Tuesday, June 9, 2009, at Floyd Memorial Hospital and Health Services in New Albany.

Born March 20, 1930, in Floyd County, he was the son of the late Russell and Zula Coomer Conrad.

He began work at the Louisville branch of the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis in Louisville in May of 1948 after graduating from high school and served in many different capacities during his 40 years. He was drafted into the Army in May 1951, was discharged in May 1953 with the rank of corporal and was a veteran of the Korean War. He returned to the bank and worked as a supervisor of coin operation, assistant manager of the cash department, manager of the securities and credit departments, assistant vice president and assistant manager of the bank for 18 years and as vice president of the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis and manager of the Louisville branch for the last five years until his retirement June 1, 1988. He graduated from the University of Louisville in 1961 with a Bachelor of Science in commerce, a major in management and a minor in English, and he also did some work on his master’s degree in business administration.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Alice M. Wolfe.

Survivors include his wife of 37 years, Marilyn J. Conrad; three daughters, Sandra Kay Telfor of Monticello, Sherry Ann Brandon of Atlanta, Ga., and Susan Tobias Youngs of Richmond, Va.; a son, James D. Fishel; two brothers, Russell Conrad Jr. of Beech Grove and Don Conrad of Greenville; two sisters, Linda Standiford of Georgetown and Eva Bundren of Corydon; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Visitation: Thursday, June 11, from 1 to 8 p.m. and Friday, June 12, after 9 a.m. at Gehlbach & Royse Funeral Home in Georgetown.

Funeral: Friday, June 12, at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with burial in Mount Pleasant Baptist Church Cemetery in Silverville.
