Roger L. Shields

Died: Saturday, June 13, 2009
Roger L. Shields, 60, Washington, died Saturday, June 13, 2009, at 7 p.m. at Indiana University Medical Center in Indianapolis.

Born Sept. 3, 1948, in Los Angeles, he was the son of Betty L. Melcom Shields of Washington and the late Charles E. Shields.

He was a 1967 graduate of the old English-Sterling High School, an Air Force veteran who served two years in Vietnam, a past member of the Washington Jaycees and a member of Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church, Washington Moose Lodge, Country Oaks Golf Association Menís League and City of Washington Zoning Appeals Board, where he was president.

Survivors besides his mother include his wife, the former Debra Williams; a daughter, Karmen Hunter of Washington; a sister, Charlenne Cook of English; a brother, Terry G. Shields of Washington; and three grandchildren.

Visitation: Tuesday, June 16, from 4 to 8 p.m. and Wednesday, June 17, after 8:30 a.m. at Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church.

Mass of Christian burial: Wednesday, June 17, at 10 a.m. at the church followed by burial in St. John Cemetery.

Graveside rites: The Washington American Legion and VFW.

Celebrant: Father Bill Wargel.

Arrangements: Ed L. Lee Mortuary in Washington.

The family suggests memorial gifts to the American Cancer Society.
