John P. Wenning

Died: Wednesday, June 24, 2009
John Paul (J P) Wenning, 91, Ramsey, died Wednesday, June 24, 2009, at Floyd Memorial Hospital and Health Services in New Albany.

The son of the late William J. and Cora V. Keehn Wenning, he served as a sergeant in the Air Force in World War II, and worked at the old Wenning’s Packing Co., Miller Processing, Mahauffer’s Meat and Jeffboat. Upon retirement, he worked at Rental Mart, Clean Air Car Check in New Albany and Bob Armstrong in New Salisbury.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife of 35 years, Lena Mae Elliott; his second wife of 31 years, Thelma Abbott; four brothers, Marvin, Ivan, Lawrence and Nelson (Bud) Wenning; and a stepdaughter, Maxine Gish.

Survivors include two sons, John W. Wenning of Ramsey and James M. Wenning of Depauw; a daughter, Linda S. Thomas of Ramsey; three stepdaughters, Pat Pfeiffer of Indianapolis, Susie Goins of Phoenix and Betty Thomas of New Albany; 15 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren.

Funeral: Sunday, June 28, at 2 p.m. at Swarens Funeral Home in Ramsey.

Officiant: the Rev. Bill Helms.

Musician: Diane Hinkle.

Pallbearers: Chris, James L., Jason and Dustin Wenning and Elliot Thomas and Donald Conrad.

Honorary pallbearer: Shawn Rainbolt.

The family suggests memorial gifts to Hosparus of Southern Indiana.
