James J. Bridge

Died: Thursday, July 23, 2009
James J. Bridge, 82, Logansport, formerly of Royal Center, died Thursday, July 23, 2009, at 7:30 p.m. at McKinney House in Logansport.

Born on July 18, 1927, in Monticello, he was the son of the late Harry and Gavis Baer Bridge.

He was a 1945 Royal Center High School graduate, a World War II Army veteran, a dairy farmer, retiring in 1975, and a Cass County Highway Department employee until he retired in 1995.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 13 years, the former Carol Sue Kirkpatrick, on Feb. 21, 1968; his second wife, Marjorie Leona Bridge, on Dec. 3, 2007; and a brother, Dudley Bridge.

Survivors include two sons, Ernie L. and Harry A. Bridge, both of Royal Center, Stephen Elliott of St. Augustine, Fla., and Stuart Elliott of Urbana; four daughters, Cathy Redmon of Arizona, Barbara Fleckenstein of Lafayette, Deborah Strange of Oak Hill, Va., and Pamela Ford of Roann; a brother, Robert Bridge of Rochester; a sister, Kay Humphrey of Zionsville; 11 grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

Visitation: Monday, July 27, from 4 to 8 p.m. at Harrison-Metzger & Rans Funeral Home in Royal Center.

Funeral: Tuesday, July 28, at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home with burial, including military rites, in Kistler Cemetery in Royal Center.

Officiant: Dr. James Elliott.

The family suggests memorial gifts to the William K. Vernon Scholarship Fund in care of Community State Bank, Attn.: Jess Robinson, Box 370, Royal Center, IN 46978.
