Alice Sturgeon

Died: Sunday, April 25, 2010
Alice Sturgeon, 86, Franklin, died Sunday, April 25, 2010, at Morning Pointe in Franklin.

Born Sept. 4, 1923, in Whitestown, she was the daughter of the late Oria and Arminta Harsin Cragun.

She was a 1942 graduate of Whitestown High School, a 1946 graduate of Central Normal College in Danville and a school teacher, having taught business for 39 years, including one year at Avon High School, 15 years at Union High School and 23 years at Franklin Community High School, before retiring in 1986. She attended Grace United Methodist Church in Franklin, where she was a member of the Naomi Circle, and was a member of the Indiana State Teachers Retirement Association, the Johnson County Teachers Retirement Association, Delta Kappa Gamma International Sorority and Alpha Tau Sorority, local in Johnson and Shelby counties where she was one of the co-founders and served as treasurer for 42 years, the United States Trotter and Racing Association and the Indiana Trotter and Racing Association.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 37 years, Kedric Sturgeon, in February 1984; three sisters, Clarissa, Melvina and Geneva; and a brother, James Cragun.

Survivors include a foster son Donald Sweeney of Greenwood; two grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter.

Visitation: Wednesday, April 28, from 4 to 8 p.m. at Flinn and Maguire Funeral Home in Franklin.

Funeral: Thursday, April 29, at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with burial in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens in Greenwood.

The family suggests memorial gifts to the American Diabetes Association and/or the American Cancer Society.
