Richard A. Rankin

Died: Friday, September 17, 2010
Richard A. (Dick) Rankin, 88, Floyds Knobs, died Friday afternoon, Sept. 17, 2010, at the V.A. Medical Center in Louisville.

Born June 12, 1922, in Floyds Knobs, he was the son the late Algor and Catherine Andres Rankin.

He was a Navy veteran of World War II, known as “Tin Can Sailors,” was in the Civilian Conservation Corps, was a lifetime member of the American Rabbit Breeders Association, VFW Post 3281, American Legion Post 42 and Knights of Columbus Cardinal Ritter Council No. 1221, was a past member of the McCullough and Lafayette Volunteer Fire departments and retired from Colgate Palmolive Co. after 40 years.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Thelma Keeley Rankin, and a brother, Bill Rankin.

Survivors include three children, Linda K. Wibbels and Patty A. Martin, both of Floyds Knobs, and Michael A. (Mike) Rankin of Milltown; six grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and his longtime companion, Lois Turner.

Visitation: Monday, Sept. 20, from 4 to 8 p.m. and Tuesday, Sept. 21, from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home (formerly Generations Funeral Home) in New Albany.

Funeral Mass: Wednesday, Sept. 21, at 10 a.m. at St. Mary of the Knobs Catholic Church with military honors and burial to follow at the church cemetery.

The family suggests memorial gifts to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
