Donald L. Jones

Died: Sunday, January 16, 2011
Donald Lee Jones, 76, Palmyra, died Sunday, Jan. 16, 2011, at Floyd Memorial Hospital and Health Services in New Albany after a lengthy battle with a respiratory illness.

Born March 13, 1934, in Louisville, he was the son of the late Orville and M. Ruth Miller Jones.

He was an Army veteran; was a former dairy farmer for more than 30 years and was awarded the Indiana Master Farm Conservationist award; was a former salesman for Honey Krust and Rainbo Bread Co. and served as a field man for Holland Dairies and Miller Dairy; was a member of the Ferguson Tractor Club and St. Michaelís Catholic Church in Bradford; and served as a board member for the Harrison County Soil and Water Conservation District, Lincoln Hills RC&D, Farm Bureau Inc., North Harrison FFA Advisory Board, American Dairy Promotion, Harrison County Extension Board, Harrison County 4-H Council, North Harrison Community School Corp. and the Palmyra Volunteer Fire Department advisory board.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Roy Jones, and a grandson, Lee Jones.

Survivors include his wife of 54 years, the former Shirley Gettelfinger; four sons, Robert, Keith, Mark and Kevin Jones, all of Palmyra; three daughters, Ruth Hackman of Vallonia, Anita Stumler of Fredericksburg and Linda Abner of Palmyra; a sister, Rita Utz of New Albany; 28 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Visitation: Tuesday, Jan. 18, from 4 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 19, from noon to 8 p.m. and Thursday, Jan. 20, after 9 a.m. at St. Michaelís Catholic Church in Bradford.

Funeral Mass: Thursday, Jan. 20, at 11 a.m. at the church with burial in the church cemetery.

Arrangements: Gehlbach & Royse Funeral Home in Corydon.

Celebrant: Father John Fink.

Pallbearers: Chris, Will, Tony, Logan, Scott, Casey and Ethan Jones and Nevin Stumler. Honorary pallbearers: Kyle and Keith Edward Jones, Clayton and Calvin Stumler, Victor Hackman and Asher Abner.

The family suggests memorial gifts to his church.
