Kathleen R. Roggenkamp

Died: Sunday, September 11, 2011
Kathleen Rebecca Hilgeman Roggenkamp, 86, Milltown, died Sunday, Sept. 11, 2011, at Autumn Woods Health Care Campus in New Albany.

Born May 21, 1925, in Duff, she was the daughter of the late Elmer F. Sr. and Minnie Mae Whitsitt Hilgeman.

She was the first president of the Milltown American Legion Women’s Auxiliary in 1946; joined the Milltown Chapter No. 412 of the Order of the Eastern Star, of which she was a past worthy matron, in 1945; had been a member of the Milltown Christian Church since 1947, serving in many offices; in the 1940s, she chartered and led the Girl Scout Troop in Milltown; in 1989, after her retirement from E.K. Roggenkamp and Co., the family Chevrolet-Olds dealership, she was instrumental in forming the Milltown Beautification Committee; and, in 2005, was the recipient of the “Giving from the Heart” philanthropic award from the Southern Indiana Women in Philanthropy organization. Each Memorial Day weekend, she set up a booth at Milltown Cemetery, collecting donations to pay for cemetery upkeep and lawn maintenance, and, for 20 years, she was steadfast in coordinating Harrison and Crawford County Commissioners in building a new, two-lane bridge over Blue River, which was dedicated in July 2010.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, E. Fred Hilgeman Jr.; a sister, Melba J. Taylor; and a daughter, Baby Roslyn, in 1951.

Survivors include her husband of 68 years, E.K. (Duke) Roggenkamp Jr.; two sons E.K. III (Edd) Roggenkamp of Versailles, Ky., and Kelly Roggenkamp of Georgetown; a daughter, Rebecca Vance of New Albany; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Visitation: Tuesday, Sept. 13, from noon to 9 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home in Milltown and Wednesday, Sept. 14, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Milltown Christian Church.

Funeral: Wednesday, Sept. 14, at 2 p.m. at the church with burial in Milltown Cemetery.

Pallbearers: Bill Booth, Curt Hudson, Kenny Cundiff, Lee Taylor, Stan Pennington and Bryan Taylor.

Honorary pallbearers: Larry Bye and James Goldman.

The family suggests memorial gifts to the Agape Circle Women’s Group of the Milltown Christian Church, the Community Foundation of Crawford County or the American Cancer Society.
