David A. Carter

Died: Friday, April 20, 2012
David Allan Carter, 81, died Friday, April 20, 2012, in Corydon.

He was a member of Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity at Butler University, where he earned a business degree, was a lifetime member of the American Pension Actuaries as well as a charter life underwriter and a member of the Million Dollar Round Table while with Home Life of New York, was active with St. Alban’s Episcopal Church and headed several Boy Scouts of America troops. He was the founder of Carefree, employed many people during the years at Hickory Ridge Inn Restaurant and Motel, the 76 Truck Stop and the Carefree Days Inn and Carefree Homes, developed three residential subdivisions and an outlet mall on the northeast side of Indianapolis.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, the former Marilyn Virginia Prince.

Survivors include three children, Thomas Charles Carter of Colorado, Carol Church of Michigan and Elizabeth Fender of Indiana; four grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter.

Visitation: Sunday, May 6, from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. at Ambassador House at Heritage Park in Fishers.

Memorial service: Sunday, May 6, at 2 p.m. at Ambassador House.
