Charles E. Chanley Sr.

Charles E. Chanley Sr., 87, Leavenworth, died Wednesday, Sept. 5, 2012, at his home.

Born June 8, 1925, in Madison, he was the son of the late Lawrence and Pansy Thornton Chanley.

He was an Army veteran of World War II, a retired supervisor at the old ARPAC Poultry Processing Co. in Corydon, a retired school bus driver for the Crawford County school system, a member of VFW Post 2950 in Corydon and of the Presbyterian faith.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, the former Betty Jean Watson; a brother, Jack Chanley; and a sister, Goldie Mitchell.

Survivors include four sons, Timothy Chanley of Petersburg, Charles Chanley Jr. of Leavenworth, Jimmy Chanley of Palmyra and David Chanley of Corydon; five daughters, Vickie McAllister of Cleveland, Tenn., Patty Chanley and Melody Steward, both of Petersburg, Robin Allen of Corydon and Tammy Sheckells of Leavenworth; five brothers, Jesse, Donnie, Bob, Bill and Jim Chanley; two sisters, Alice Pelleman and Brenda Summers; 35 grandchildren; and 29 great-grandchildren.

Visitation: Friday, Sept. 7, from 1 to 8 p.m. and Saturday, Sept. 8, after 9 a.m. at Beanblossom-Cesar Funeral Home in Corydon.

Funeral: Saturday, Sept. 8, 2012, at 1 p.m. at the funeral home with burial in Leavenworth Memorial Gardens.

Pallbearers: Phillip and Mike McCollum, Donnie Roberts, Billy Sheckells, Derek Steward and Danny Hill.

The family suggests memorial gifts to the American Cancer Society.
