GL Murphy

Senior Chief GL Squirrel Murphy, 65, Hardinsburg, died Wednesday, Dec. 19, 2012, at his home.

Born Jan. 12, 1947, in New Albany, he was the son of the late Edgar Murphy and Audrey Timberlake Murphy Reagan.

He was retired from the Navy, where he served for more than 40 years, including Vietnam and the Middle East, he was a Silver Star recipient, was a former Building Trades and Special Education junior high and high school teacher serving many Southern Indiana schools, was a member, elder and park board member of Valeene Christian Church, was a Kentucky Colonel, was a member of the Wonder Valley Christian Camp board, Washington County 4-H board, U.S. Navy Seabee Association and Indiana Sheriff’s Association and was a lifetime member of the Vietnam Veteran’s Association.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Darlene Murphy Fletcher.

Survivors include his wife, the former Linda L. Ogden; a daughter, Megan Lynn Murphy Foye of Marengo; his stepfather, Charles R. (Bob) Reagan of New Albany; a brother, Danny Murphy of Sulphur; a sister, Janice Hahn of Scottsburg; two stepbrothers, Doug Reagan of Colorado and Kevin Reagan of Texas; and a stepsister, Cathy Matney of Texas.

Visitation: Friday, Dec. 21, from 2 to 8 p.m. and Saturday, Dec. 22, after 9 a.m. at Beanblossom-Cesar Funeral Home in Corydon.

Funeral: Saturday, Dec. 22, at 2 p.m. at the funeral home with burial in Otterbein Cemetery near Laconia.

The family suggests memorial gifts to the Wounded Warrior Project.
